Meghan and Mike’s engagement session might be one of my new favorites (I know, I say that for every session… but if you scroll through these gorgeous images, you’ll see why!) We started outside of the famous Shinola Hotel, where Mike proposed to Meghan! Right next to the hotel, in Parker’s Alley, there was a group of young people cheering us on when we first started our session. It was fun to have a “hype squad” and I’d say it was well-deserved — Meghan and Mike were natural PROS at modeling!
I absolutely love the second outfit Meghan and Mike chose for their city photos: a gorgeous dress for her, a sports coat for him… so classy. We walked around the city and Mike pointed out a building his great-great grandfather built. Of course we had to take a few photos in front of it, and they are some of my favorites from their session! It’s so cool that we were able to incorporate that family history into their photos.
After our walk through the Belt, we headed over to Belle Isle. It was a little hard to navigate the island since they were setting up for the Grand Prix (we had to walk around some fences!), but we had the Casino area all to ourselves and the PERFECT glowy light. Give me a willow tree and a sunset, and I’m one happy photographer!
I can’t wait to be back in Detroit with Meghan and Mike next June… this time, for their wedding!

[…] I love Meghan and Mike’s style; they blended classic elegance with the industrial feel of their venue to create something fresh and unique. The portrait locations we chose offered a little bit of both. We started at the DIA for their first look and bridal party portraits, where the white marble is timelessly beautiful and looked SO good with their blue color palette. Next, Meghan and Mike snuck away from their party for a few bride and groom photos in a really special spot: outside of a historic bar that Mike’s great-great grandfather built! I love that we were able to capture some family history in their wedding photos. We used the same location at their engagement session, which you can see here! […]
