Erin & Christopher | Engaged

A Downtown Engagement Session | Detroit, MI

Erin and Christopher have the cutest love story: they were high school sweethearts, spent a few years apart in college, then found their way back to one another and have been together for years. Erin is a friend of mine from college, so I have been waiting for her engagement announcement! I was SO excited when she reached out to me about photographing their wedding, because there’s pretty much nothing better than photographing a friend’s wedding. It’s so fun!

Even though the leaves had already fallen and Michigan temperatures are totally unpredictable in the late fall, Erin and Christopher wanted to do their engagement session as soon as possible! Our session was on one of the last days of November, and we got SO lucky with the weather: 50 degrees and a little sunshine. It doesn’t get better than that when you’re mentally preparing for a two hour session in 25 degree Michigan weather, lol!

We decided on downtown Detroit for our location, and I’m so glad we did because there are so many awesome spots to shoot downtown. It’s a great location for winter sessions because the city looks the same in any season (unless there’s snow, which is still magical!) It’s also an extra special location for Erin and Christopher because Christopher proposed at the Shinola Hotel downtown (and then he coordinated for both of their families to meet them out for dinner as a surprise afterwards — SO thoughtful!). They’ll also be getting married downtown at the Waterview Loft, so our session was a great opportunity to scope out locations for wedding portraits.

I am SO excited for Erin and Christopher’s wedding next August. These two have such great chemistry and made my job so easy. I couldn’t love these more!
